Türkiye e-Visa

Online visa for tourism or commerce only — single entry, stay of up to 30 days, e-Visa valid 180 days from the stated start date. Pakistani nationals qualify only as a conditional nationality: a still-valid Schengen, UK, US or Irish visa or residence permit is mandatory and is checked at the airport.

  • Credit or debit card in the applicant's own name for online payment
  • Eligibility re-checked on evisa.gov.tr immediately before booking flights

Visit Visa (consular sticker visa)

The short-stay visa for Pakistanis who do not qualify for the e-Visa, lodged with biometrics at the Türkiye visa application centre appointed for Pakistan or at the Turkish mission. Legally up to 90 days in any 180-day period, though consulates frequently issue shorter, single-entry validity on a first application.

  • Passport valid at least six months with two blank pages
  • Polio (OPV) vaccination certificate — required by Pakistan to exit, checked at the airport

Business & Commercial Visit Visa

The short-stay visa lodged under the commerce/business purpose — meetings, contract negotiation, machinery inspection and trade fairs in Istanbul, Bursa and Izmir. Widely used by Pakistani textile, surgical instrument and rice exporters. It does not permit paid employment in Türkiye.

Short-stay visa lodged under the medical treatment purpose, for care at a Turkish hospital or clinic — a large and growing market for Pakistani patients. One relative may travel alongside under the accompaniment (refakat) purpose.

  • Medical reports and a referral letter from the treating doctor in Pakistan
  • Proof of funds or hospital payment/deposit receipt covering the estimated cost
  • Accommodation booking and return travel details

Student Visa (education purpose)

The consular study visa issued on the strength of a Turkish university acceptance letter (Kabul Mektubu). You must enter on this visa and then apply online at e-ikamet (goc.gov.tr) for a student residence permit within the first month of arrival — the visa alone does not authorise a long stay.

4–8 weeks after the appointmentConsular fee approx. USD 60 plus centre fee; ikamet card fee (roughly TRY 1,000) plus residence duty paid after arrival, revised each January
  • Original acceptance letter from a YÖK-recognised Turkish university
  • Matric, FSc/A-level and degree certificates and transcripts, apostilled by MOFA Pakistan and sworn-translated into Turkish
  • Proof of tuition payment or scholarship award, plus evidence of living funds
  • Health insurance valid in Türkiye for the study period
  • Passport valid at least 60 days beyond the residence permit you will request

Türkiye Bursları (Türkiye Scholarships)

The Turkish government's fully funded scholarship for bachelor's, master's and PhD study — tuition, accommodation, a monthly stipend, health insurance, one return flight and a year of Turkish language. It is a funding award, not a visa: successful candidates still obtain the education-purpose student visa. Success rates are low, with a few thousand places against well over a hundred thousand applications worldwide.

Applications open in January and close in February; interviews and results usually mid-yearFree — no application fee at any stage; anyone charging you to apply is not affiliated
  • Online application at turkiyeburslari.gov.tr within the annual window
  • Academic average of roughly 70% for bachelor's, 75% for master's and PhD, and 90% for medicine and health sciences

  • Scanned passport or NIC, transcripts, certificates, and reference and motivation letters
  • Attendance at the online or in-person interview if shortlisted

Turkish Language Course Residence Permit (TÖMER)

Entry visa for enrolment at a TÖMER or licensed Turkish language centre, converted after arrival into a short-term residence permit for language study. It may be granted at most twice, so total stay for language study is capped at two years, and it does not permit work.

3–8 weeks for the visa; e-ikamet decision a few weeks after arrivalConsular fee approx. USD 60 plus centre fee; ikamet card fee and residence duty extra; course fees separate
  • Enrolment or invitation letter from an accredited TÖMER or licensed language school

  • Bank statement evidencing sufficient monthly funds for the whole course period
  • Private health insurance valid in Türkiye and a registered address (tenancy contract or notarised undertaking)
  • Passport valid at least 60 days beyond the requested permit

Post-Graduation Short-Term Residence Permit

Under Article 31 of Law No. 6458, graduates of Turkish higher-education institutions may apply within six months of graduation for a short-term residence permit of up to one year to look for work. It grants no right to work — an employer must still obtain a work permit before you can be paid.

3–8 weeks after the e-ikamet application and biometric appointmentIkamet card fee of roughly TRY 1,000 plus residence duty by duration, revised each January
  • Diploma or graduation certificate from a Turkish higher-education institution

  • Registered address in Türkiye (tenancy contract or notarised host undertaking)
  • Bank statement showing sufficient monthly income for the permit period
  • Passport valid at least 60 days beyond the requested permit

Work Permit & Work Visa

The main employment route. You lodge a work visa application at the Turkish mission in Pakistan and your Turkish employer files the matching application online with the Ministry of Labour and Social Security. The permit is tied to that employer and that job, is first granted for up to one year, and doubles as your residence permit.

Ministry target of 30 days on a complete file; 6–12 weeks end to end is realisticWork permit duty plus card fee, roughly TRY 9,000–13,000 in 2026 and revised every January, plus the consular visa fee
  • Signed employment contract meeting the Ministry's minimum-wage multiple for the role (about 6.5x for senior managers, 4x for engineers and architects)
  • Employer normally employing at least five Turkish citizens per foreign worker and meeting the Ministry's capital or turnover test
  • Degree and experience letters apostilled by MOFA Pakistan with sworn Turkish translation
  • Employer to file the online application within 10 working days of your consular reference number
  • SGK (social security) registration and address registration at the local nüfus office after arrival

Turquoise Card (Turkuaz Kart)

Indefinite work and residence card for highly qualified professionals, scientists, academics, strategic investors and recognised cultural or sporting figures, awarded against the Ministry's scoring criteria. It begins with a three-year transition period; the restriction must be lifted by applying during the final 180 days of that period, or the card is cancelled. Spouse and dependent children receive linked residence documents.

Typically 2–3 months; complex or investor files longerSame tariff as the work permit — duty plus card fee, revised every January
  • Senior, expert or academic role paying a high multiple of the minimum wage (about 6.5x for executive posts)
  • Documented qualifications, publications, patents, investment volume or jobs created in Türkiye

  • Application to lift the transition-period restriction filed within the final 180 days of the three years

Company Partner / Director Work Permit

Entrepreneurs who establish or buy into a Turkish company can obtain a work permit as a shareholder-director. A practical base for Pakistani traders, textile exporters and logistics businesses — but it is a genuine trading requirement, not a paper company.

6–12 weeks after the company is registeredSame work permit duty plus card fee as above; company formation, notary and accountancy costs separate
  • Registered Turkish limited or joint-stock company with the paid-in capital shown in the trade registry
  • Directorship plus a shareholding of at least 20% valued at not less than TRY 40,000
  • Trade registry gazette, tax registration certificate, signature circular and business plan
  • Turkish tax number and a corporate bank account in the company's name
  • Employment and turnover conditions met by the first renewal, evidenced by SGK filings

Property-Based Short-Term Residence Permit

Owning a residential property supports a renewable short-term residence permit of up to two years, with linked permits for spouse and minor children. Since 2023 the property must be valued at USD 200,000 or more, and many neighbourhoods in Istanbul, Antalya and other cities are closed to new foreign residence registration. It gives no right to work and no direct route to citizenship.

4–10 weeks after the title deed is issued and the e-ikamet appointmentIkamet card fee plus residence duty by duration; 4% title deed transfer tax, SPK valuation and legal costs extra
  • Title deed (TAPU) registered in the applicant's own name

  • Residential property in a neighbourhood still open to foreign registration, used as the applicant's home
  • Turkish tax number, Turkish bank account and valid private health insurance
  • Bank statement showing sufficient monthly income for each family member
  • DASK earthquake insurance and utility subscription in the owner's name

Turkish Citizenship by Investment

USD 400,000 in real estate held for three years, or USD 500,000 in bank deposits, government bonds, investment fund shares or fixed capital, can lead to citizenship for the investor, spouse and under-18 children with no physical residence, interview or language requirement. Approval remains discretionary. Note that Türkiye is not in the EU or Schengen — a Turkish passport gives no right to live or work in Europe.

6–12 months to passport issueUSD 400,000 property or USD 500,000 alternative investment, plus 4% title deed tax and roughly USD 15,000–30,000 in legal, valuation and government costs

  • Purchase funds transferred in USD through Turkish banks with documented source of wealth — Pakistani applicants face detailed AML and source-of-funds checks
  • Certificate of Conformity issued by the relevant Turkish ministry
  • Police character certificates and valid passports for every family member included
  • Short-term residence permit obtained and held while the citizenship file is processed

Family Visa (family unification)

Stage one, applied for in Pakistan: the consular visa for the spouse and dependent children of a Turkish citizen, or of a foreigner legally resident in Türkiye, allowing entry so the family residence permit can then be obtained in-country.

6–12 weeks after the appointmentConsular fee approx. USD 60 plus application-centre service fee
  • NADRA marriage certificate and children's birth certificates, apostilled by MOFA Pakistan and sworn-translated into Turkish
  • Sponsor's Turkish ID (kimlik), or their residence and work permit if a foreign national
  • Sponsor's payslips or tax returns showing monthly income of at least the minimum wage plus one third of it per family member
  • Title deed or tenancy contract for accommodation adequate for the family size
  • Health insurance for each applicant and police character certificates
  • Foreign sponsors to evidence at least one year of lawful residence in Türkiye

Family Residence Permit (Aile İkamet İzni)

Stage two, applied for in Türkiye at e-ikamet: the permit for the spouse, minor children and dependent adult children of a Turkish citizen or of a permit-holding foreigner. Granted for up to three years at a time and never beyond the sponsor's own permit. Spouses of Turkish citizens may apply for citizenship after three years of marriage.

4–12 weeks after the online application and biometric appointmentIkamet card fee of roughly TRY 1,000 per person plus residence duty charged by duration and nationality, revised each January

Why Turkey

What makes Turkey worth it

Türkiye Bursları, genuinely fully funded

The Turkish government scholarship covers tuition, accommodation, a monthly stipend, health insurance, one return flight and a year of Turkish language. Applications open in January each year and Pakistan sends one of the larger applicant pools — which is also why it is fiercely competitive: a few thousand awards against well over a hundred thousand applications worldwide.

Citizenship by investment, 6–12 months

USD 400,000 in property held for three years, or USD 500,000 in deposits, government bonds or investment funds, can lead to Turkish citizenship for the investor, spouse and under-18 children, with no physical residence, interview or language test. Be clear-eyed about what it is: Türkiye is not in the EU or Schengen, so a Turkish passport does not give you the right to live or work in Europe.

Employer-led work permits

The Ministry of Labour and Social Security aims to decide a complete employer application within 30 days, though 6–12 weeks end to end is more realistic. The permit is tied to that employer and job — you cannot arrive and job-hunt. The Turquoise Card offers indefinite work and residence rights, but only to senior professionals, scientists, academics and strategic investors who clear the Ministry's scoring criteria.

Close and familiar — but the visa is the hard part

Direct flights from Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi, halal food by default and established Pakistani communities in Istanbul and Ankara make Türkiye an easier place to settle than most European destinations. Refusal rates on visit visas from Pakistan are high, however, so every application needs documented finances, real ties to Pakistan and a coherent purpose.

FAQ

Turkey questions, answered

Can Pakistani passport holders use the Türkiye e-Visa?

Only conditionally. Pakistan is a conditional e-Visa nationality, so you qualify only if you already hold a valid visa or residence permit from a Schengen state, the UK, the USA or Ireland — and that document must still be valid when you travel. Everyone else lodges a sticker visa with biometrics through the Türkiye visa application centre appointed for Pakistan or the Turkish mission. The e-Visa also covers tourism and commerce only, never study or work, and there is no visa on arrival for Pakistani passports. Check your eligibility on evisa.gov.tr before booking flights — the conditions change without notice.

How difficult is a Turkish visit visa from Pakistan?

Refusals are common, and they almost always come down to weak financial evidence or thin ties to Pakistan rather than the itinerary. Six months of consistent bank statements, salary slips or business proof, property papers, family and employment ties and a credible return plan matter most, and earlier Schengen, UK or US travel helps considerably. Separately, Pakistan requires every outbound traveller to hold a polio (OPV) vaccination certificate — that is checked at the airport on departure, not by the Turkish consulate.

Is there a post-study work visa in Türkiye?

Not in the UK or Canadian sense. Graduates of Turkish universities may apply within six months of graduation for a short-term residence permit of up to one year to look for work, but it carries no right to work — legal employment still requires an employer to obtain a work permit for you. While studying, undergraduates may work part-time up to 24 hours a week only after completing their first year; postgraduate students may work from the start, still subject to a work permit.

Can I bring my parents or my fiancé(e)?

No. The family residence permit covers only the spouse, minor children and dependent adult children of a Turkish citizen or of a foreigner holding a residence permit — there is no fiancé(e) visa and no dependent-parent route. Parents normally travel on a visit visa, or apply for a short-term residence permit in their own right if they can evidence income, accommodation and valid health insurance in Türkiye.
