Why Hungary

What makes Hungary worth it

Stipendium Hungaricum, planned properly

Pakistan takes part in Hungary's government scholarship with HEC as the sending partner — tuition, a monthly stipend, an accommodation contribution and medical insurance at Bachelor's, Master's and PhD level. The call, quota and deadline are re-set every year and places are heavily oversubscribed, so we build the file around both the HEC and the Hungarian deadline and confirm the current year's call before you commit.

Low-cost base inside the EU

Hungary's 9% corporate income tax is the lowest headline rate in the European Union — with a local business tax of up to 2% on top, and VAT at 27%, the EU's highest. Budapest living costs still sit well below Vienna or Munich, which is what keeps study and small-business plans realistic on a Pakistani budget.

Schengen travel and long-term status

A Hungarian residence permit lets you travel the 29-country Schengen area for 90 days in any 180. EU long-term resident status requires five years of continuous lawful residence; time spent on a guest-worker or White Card permit does not count towards it, so the route you start on decides where you can end up.

Honest route selection

Hungary's guest-worker route is limited by government decree to a short list of nationalities that has never included Pakistan, so we do not sell it. We file only what is genuinely open to Pakistani passport holders: study and research, EU Blue Card, Hungarian Card, intra-corporate transfer, self-employment, investor and family reunification.

FAQ

Hungary questions, answered

Can a Pakistani get an ordinary Hungarian work permit?

Not the guest-worker one. Under Hungary's 2024 immigration act, guest-worker permits are issued only to nationals of countries named in a government decree — a short list that has never included Pakistan and that has been narrowed further since. What stays genuinely open to Pakistani nationals is the EU Blue Card, the Hungarian Card, intra-corporate transfer, guest self-employment and the guest investor route. Each needs a real qualification, a genuine employer or capital; none is a general labour route. These decrees are reissued periodically, so we re-check eligibility before every filing rather than quoting last year's rules.

Where do Pakistani applicants submit a Hungarian visa application?

At the Embassy of Hungary in Islamabad, or at the outsourced visa application centre the mission is using at the time — we confirm the live channel before booking, because it changes. The appointment must be in the applicant's own name with details matching the passport exactly; proxy or agent-name bookings get cancelled. Long-stay residence permit files are pre-submitted electronically through the Enter Hungary platform and then lodged in person. Fees are paid in PKR at the mission's rate plus any service charge, and slots are limited, so we normally start 6–10 weeks before travel.

How competitive is Stipendium Hungaricum for Pakistani students?

It is a two-portal process — HEC's scholarship portal in Pakistan and the Hungarian application system at stipendiumhungaricum.hu — and the two deadlines are not the same. HEC's is usually the earlier one, with the Hungarian call typically closing in mid-January for the following academic year. The Pakistan quota is capped and competition is heavy, so your university preference order, a programme-specific motivation letter and preparation for the HEC and university selection stage matter far more than volume. Winners receive tuition, a monthly stipend, an accommodation contribution and medical insurance, and still file a student residence permit at the embassy afterwards. Partner countries, quotas and deadlines are renegotiated annually, so always confirm the current call.

What are the real refusal risks for a Hungarian Schengen visa from Pakistan?

Pakistani applicants sit among the highest Schengen refusal rates, most often for weak or freshly-funded bank history, unclear purpose of travel, or thin ties to Pakistan. Six months of genuine statements, FBR/NTN tax returns, employment or business proof and bookings that match the stated itinerary carry far more weight than any cover letter. A fabricated document means refusal and can bring an entry ban recorded across the Schengen area. Note too that Hungary has no long-stay tourist route: on a Type C visa you are bound by 90 days in any 180, and anything longer needs a residence permit ground.
