Visitor Visa (eVisa)

Antigua & Barbuda's ordinary entry visa, applied for online through the government eVisa portal before travel. It covers tourism, visiting family and business trips such as meetings, conferences and site visits — there is no separate business visa. Issued single entry, or multiple entry for 12 or 24 months at the visa officer's discretion.

Decision emailed within 7 working days of applicationIndicative US$100 single entry; multiple entry costs more — the exact amount is shown at card payment on the portal
  • Colour scan of your passport bio page, valid at least 6 months from your arrival date
  • One recent colour passport photograph, 45mm x 35mm, plain white background, unedited
  • Return or onward air ticket, or the travel agent's booking confirmation
  • Proof of accommodation for the whole stay, or an invitation letter from your host, school or Antiguan employer
  • Personal bank statements for the previous two months
  • Recent police record and birth certificate; every document scanned in full colour from the original (photocopies are rejected)

Tourist Visa on Arrival

A 30-day single-entry tourist visa granted at the port of entry to visa-required travellers who already hold a valid US, Canadian or UK visa or resident card, or a Schengen visa or resident card. Strictly for tourism or casual visits to friends and relatives — not for work, study or residence.

Granted at the port of entry on arrivalUS$100 (or the Eastern Caribbean dollar equivalent) per passenger, including children
  • Valid US or Canadian visa or permanent resident card, UK visa or resident card, or Schengen visa or resident card
  • Passport valid at least 6 months, plus a re-entry permit if your country of nationality requires one
  • Return ticket and evidence of sufficient funds for the whole stay
  • Purpose limited to tourism or visiting friends and relatives, with no residence or occupation in Antigua & Barbuda
  • Not available to holders of diplomatic or official passports
  • Non-extendable and non-convertible, except on medical grounds approved by the Chief Immigration Officer

Transit Visa

The transit visa type on the Antigua & Barbuda visa form, for visa-required travellers who must leave the controlled airside area at V.C. Bird International Airport. You do not need it if you connect within 24 hours with proof of onward travel and stay inside the controlled space, and cruise passengers who arrive in the morning and depart the same day are also exempt.

Decision within 7 working days when applied for onlineNot separately published — charged on the entry-visa scale; confirm the amount at payment on the portal
  • Confirmed onward ticket, normally within 24 hours of arrival
  • Valid visa or entry permission for your final destination country
  • Colour scan of your passport bio page, valid at least 6 months from arrival
  • Stated reason you must leave the airport's controlled space (airport change or overnight connection)

Extension of Stay

Not a visa but an extension of the entry endorsement already in your passport, filed in person at the Immigration Department in St. John's. This is the route used for longer holidays, extended family visits and medical treatment. Granted for periods of up to three months, and visitors still may not take any paid or unpaid employment.

By appointment with the Extension Division; you must attend in personEC$150 for up to 3 months (non-CARICOM) plus an EC$50 non-refundable processing fee — some Immigration notices quote EC$300, so confirm the current amount
  • Completed Extension of Stay form, filed before your current entry endorsement expires
  • Valid passport or travel document and one passport-size photograph
  • Valid airline ticket out of Antigua & Barbuda, or a security deposit
  • Evidence of funds to support yourself; if you are staying with a friend or relative, bring your host to the appointment
  • Documented reason for the extension — medical letter, work permit or proof of enrolment as applicable
  • Appointment booked with the Extension Division of the Immigration Department, St. John's

Student Permit

Every non-national student needs a student permit from the Immigration Department, tied to one named institution, plus a student-type entry visa from the eVisa portal. The permit must be approved before you fly — a visitor cannot switch to student status after arrival. Granted one year at a time and renewed on a sealed principal's report. No paid work is allowed, and there is no post-study work visa: graduates need an employer-sponsored work permit to stay on.

Must be approved before you travel — file as soon as your admission is confirmedSet by the Immigration Department fee schedule — confirm the current amount with the Department
  • Acceptance letter from the educational institution AND a separate acceptance letter from the Ministry of Education
  • Applicant's passport and passport-size photograph
  • Proof of financial support and a health certificate
  • Birth certificate plus parents' or guardians' passports, and a family-court custody order if a minor travels with another adult
  • Health insurance in the student's own name (not the sponsor's) covering the permit period
  • For each annual renewal: a sealed report from the school principal with grades, attendance and any disciplinary infractions

Work Permit (employer-sponsored) + Work Visa

Employment is entirely employer-driven: the Antiguan employer applies to the Labour Department for a work permit, and only once it is granted do you apply for a work-type entry visa. Permits are annual and renewable and are tied to that one employer and job title, so changing jobs means a new permit. The labour market is small and CARICOM/CSME nationals can move for work in ways Pakistani nationals cannot.

Indicative 1–3 months for the permit, then about 7 working days for the entry visaWork permit fee set by the Labour Department schedule and normally paid by the employer; Immigration endorsement of work-permit time is EC$150 for up to 1 year (non-CARICOM), plus the entry visa fee
  • Signed job offer or contract from an employer registered in Antigua & Barbuda
  • Employer's work permit application to the Labour Department, with evidence the post was advertised locally first
  • Degree certificates and any professional registration or licence required for the post
  • Police character certificate from Pakistan and a medical certificate
  • Passport valid at least 6 months plus passport-size photographs
  • Entry visa applied for online only after the work permit is granted

Citizenship by Investment – National Development Fund (NDF)

The lowest-priced route to an Antiguan passport: a non-refundable US$230,000 contribution to the National Development Fund, covering a single applicant or a family of up to four. Larger families pay additional government processing and due diligence fees per person. Applications can only be filed through a CIU-licensed local agent, and the contribution is payable within 30 days of approval.

Indicative 4–6 months; the CIU does not publish a guaranteed timelineUS$230,000 contribution + government processing US$10,000 (single) / US$20,000 (family of up to 4) / +US$10,000 per additional dependant
  • US$230,000 NDF contribution, paid into the Government Special Fund within 30 days of approval
  • Due diligence fees: US$8,500 principal, US$5,000 spouse, US$2,000 child aged 12–17, US$4,000 dependant aged 18–30 or parent aged 55+; children under 12 free

Citizenship by Investment – Real Estate Option

Buy property worth at least US$300,000 in a government-approved development and hold it for five years, ending up with an asset rather than a donation. Once purchase price, closing costs and government fees are added, the total outlay is higher than the NDF route.

Indicative 4–6 months, plus the property transferFrom US$300,000 property + government processing US$10,000 (single) / US$20,000 (family of up to 4)
  • Binding purchase and sale agreement with the developer of a CIU-approved project

Resident Permit (Residence Certificate)

The three-year permit that lets a non-national live, work or study in Antigua & Barbuda and have approved dependants reside with them. The main route is four years of lawful, unbroken residence, but it can come sooner: a student after one year at a tertiary institution, a person of independent means after two years, an entrepreneur or investor after two years on work permits, a government employee, or a spouse of a citizen after one year of marriage. Applications are by appointment only.

Indicative 3–6 months; by appointment with the Immigration DepartmentPrescribed fees per the Immigration Department schedule — confirm the current amount with the Department
  • Evidence of the qualifying period — four years of lawful residence with no break of six months or more, or one of the shorter qualifying routes
  • A valid work permit at the time of application where residence is employment-based
  • Police certificates of character from Antigua & Barbuda and from every country you have lived in for over six months
  • Health certificate from a medical practitioner directed by the Immigration Department
  • Letter from the Statutory Boards confirming your tax and statutory contributions
  • Renewal filed three months before expiry; status is lost if you remain outside the country for six months or more

Resident Permit on Marriage to an Antiguan Citizen

The same three-year Resident Permit, granted on marriage grounds: a spouse married to an Antiguan citizen and living together as husband and wife for at least one year can apply, and the permit carries the right to accept employment and to have approved dependants reside with them. On divorce or the citizen spouse's death the permit may be revoked at the Chief Immigration Officer's discretion, with three months to apply for a permit in your own right.

Why Antigua

What makes Antigua & Barbuda worth it

Citizenship from US$230,000 — and Pakistan is eligible

Antigua's Citizenship by Investment Unit, created under the 2013 Citizenship by Investment Act, grants citizenship and a passport for a US$230,000 National Development Fund contribution covering a single applicant or a family of up to four. The CIU's restricted-nationality list is Afghanistan, Iran, North Korea, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen — Pakistan is not on it.

Visa on arrival if you already hold a US, UK, Canadian or Schengen visa

Holders of a valid US or Canadian visa or permanent resident card, a UK visa or resident card, or a Schengen visa or resident card can be granted a 30-day Tourist Visa on Arrival for US$100 per passenger instead of applying in advance. Everyone else applies online for an entry eVisa, with the decision emailed within 7 working days.

No personal income tax

Antigua & Barbuda has levied no personal income tax since 2016, and the Inland Revenue Department lists no personal income tax among current taxes. Sales tax (ABST), property tax and social security contributions still apply, and if you remain a Pakistani tax resident you may still owe tax at home — take advice before assuming a zero-tax outcome.

US-style medical schools, taught in English

American University of Antigua and the University of Health Sciences Antigua run US-model MD programmes in English, and UWI Five Islands is the regional public university campus. Be realistic about the immigration side: the student permit is granted one year at a time, must be approved before you fly, and allows no paid work.

FAQ

Antigua questions, answered

Do Pakistani passport holders need a visa for Antigua & Barbuda?

Yes. Pakistan is not on Antigua's visa-exempt list, so you need a visa before you travel — normally the entry eVisa, applied for online with colour-scanned documents and a card payment, with the decision emailed within 7 working days. Biometrics, where required, are taken on arrival. One useful shortcut exists: if you already hold a valid US or Canadian visa or permanent resident card, a UK visa or resident card, or a Schengen visa or resident card, you can be granted a 30-day Tourist Visa on Arrival for US$100 per passenger (children included) — but strictly for tourism or visiting friends and relatives, and it cannot be extended or converted to another status.

Is the two-year Nomad Digital Residence still available?

No — and be careful of agents still selling it. The Nomad Digital Residence was a two-year remote-work visa (US$1,500 single, US$2,000 couple, US$3,000 family, minimum income US$50,000), but the government's own NDR website now carries a notice that the programme has ended and links to a discontinuation notice. We will not accept fees for it. If your income comes from outside Antigua, the honest alternatives today are visitor stays with extensions of up to three months at a time, or one of the citizenship-by-investment routes.

Can a Pakistani national really get Antiguan citizenship by investment?

Yes. The CIU's restricted-nationality list covers Afghanistan, Iran, North Korea, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen — Pakistan is not on it. Budget close to US$250,000 all-in for a single applicant on the National Development Fund route (US$230,000 contribution, US$10,000 government processing, US$8,500 due diligence, US$300 passport). Expect deep due diligence on source of funds, so keep clean tax returns and fully traceable bank records. The real practical hurdle is usually moving that much money out of Pakistan through compliant banking channels, which needs planning with your bank months ahead. You must also spend at least 5 days in Antigua & Barbuda within the first five calendar years, or the citizenship can be revoked.

Can I move to Antigua to look for a job, or work after graduating?

No on both counts. There is no job-seeker visa and no post-study work visa. An Antiguan employer must first obtain a work permit from the Labour Department, and only then do you apply for the entry visa; permits are annual and tied to that one employer and job title. The labour market is small, and CARICOM/CSME nationals have freedom-of-movement rights that Pakistani nationals do not. Students on a student permit cannot take paid work at all — only unpaid work forming part of their studies, and an internship over three months needs its own work permit. The realistic routes for Pakistani clients are study, a genuine job offer already in hand, or investment.
