Researcher / Guest Researcher Permit

For academics joining a Danish university or research institution, either as a salaried researcher or as an unpaid guest researcher using local facilities. This route sits outside the Pay Limit and Positive List schemes entirely, with eligibility judged on the research post itself rather than a salary threshold.

Start-up Denmark (Entrepreneur Permit)

Denmark's official route for foreign founders whose business idea is vetted and approved as innovative and scalable by an independent expert panel. Successful applicants receive up to two years' residence to launch the venture, extendable in three-year blocks thereafter.

Self-Employment Permit

For entrepreneurs setting up or running an ordinary independent business in Denmark outside the innovation-vetted Start-up Denmark framework - a consultancy, trading firm, or franchise, for example. Approval hinges on demonstrating a genuine Danish business interest and your own active, day-to-day involvement in running it.

PhD Residence Permit

A dedicated permit track for enrolling in a Danish PhD programme, processed separately from bachelor's and master's student permits since most PhD candidates hold a paid university position alongside their research. Continued enrolment and active academic progress are monitored directly by the host university.

Airport Transit Visa (Type A)

Required for Pakistani passport holders who are only transiting airside through a Danish airport en route to a non-Schengen destination, without formally entering Denmark. It is a distinct, more limited visa than a standard visit visa and does not permit leaving the airport's transit zone.

  • Valid passport (3+ months validity beyond transit date, issued within the last 10 years)
  • Confirmed onward flight ticket to the final non-Schengen destination
  • Valid visa or entry permission for the final destination, if required
