Social Visit Visa

Brunei's standard tourist and family-visit visa, issued single or multiple entry for short stays. Pakistani passports are Category A, so the visa must be obtained in advance at the Brunei High Commission in Islamabad — there is no visa on arrival.

  • Passport valid at least 6 months with two blank pages
  • Completed Brunei visa application form with two passport photos, lodged at the High Commission of Brunei Darussalam, Islamabad
  • Confirmed return air ticket plus hotel booking, or an invitation letter from a Brunei resident sponsor with a copy of their IC or pass
  • Personal bank statements for the last 6 months showing funds for the full stay
  • Documents in English, or Urdu documents with certified English translation

  • Covering letter from your Pakistani employer with company registration (SECP/FBR) and NTN documents

Employment Visa & Work Pass

The main work authorisation for professionals, technicians and skilled staff employed by a Brunei-registered company. Immigration approves the application filed by the employer, then transmits the approval to the Brunei High Commission in Islamabad, where you collect the visa endorsement before travelling.

2–4 months from Foreign Worker Licence approval to visa endorsementVisa and pass fees are set by Immigration and are normally paid by the employer

  • HEC- and MOFA-attested degree, trade certificates and experience letters in English
  • Medical examination including blood test and chest X-ray, plus a police character certificate

Professional Visa & Pass

Short-term visa and pass for specialists, engineers and technical staff carrying out expertise-based work on a specific project or contract in Brunei. A Brunei company representative must sponsor the application. It is not a shortcut into a Work Pass.

3–6 weeksApprox. BND 20–30 visa fee plus pass charges, normally paid by the sponsoring company

  • Copy of the contract, purchase order or service agreement awarded in Brunei

Business Visit Long Term Pass

  • Documented ownership of, or investment in, a company incorporated and licensed in Brunei
  • Certificate of incorporation, business licence and audited accounts

Why Brunei

What makes Brunei worth it

No personal income tax

Brunei levies no personal income tax, so a Work Pass salary is not reduced by income tax at source. Oil, gas, healthcare and education employers often add housing, medical cover or an annual home flight, but these are negotiated in your contract, not guaranteed by law.

A Muslim-majority country

A Malay Islamic Monarchy where halal food, prayer times and modest dress are the norm. Pakistani engineers, doctors, nurses, teachers and oilfield technicians already work in Bandar Seri Begawan and Kuala Belait. Note that Brunei bans the public sale of alcohol and enforces strict conduct laws.

Employer-led, not points-based

There is no scoring system to gamble on — every work route starts with a Brunei company that holds a Foreign Worker Licence and a Labour Department job order against your specific post. Without that offer there is no application to file, no matter how strong your CV is.

Institution-sponsored study

Universiti Brunei Darussalam, UTB, UNISSA and Politeknik Brunei admit international students and sponsor the Student Visa and Pass directly. The Brunei Darussalam Government Scholarship is a genuine fully funded option but is highly competitive, runs on a fixed annual cycle and is never guaranteed.

FAQ

Brunei questions, answered

Can Pakistani passport holders get a Brunei visa on arrival or an e-Visa?

No. Brunei's Ministry of Foreign Affairs places Pakistani ordinary passports in Category A, which means a visa must be obtained in advance through a Brunei mission abroad. There is no visa on arrival and no online e-visa channel for Pakistani nationals. Applications are lodged at the High Commission of Brunei Darussalam in Islamabad, and most categories expect a Brunei-based sponsor, inviting company or institution to back the file.

Can I travel to Brunei on a visit visa and look for a job there?

No. Brunei has no job-seeker visa, and a social visit visa cannot be converted into work status inside the country. Your employer must first obtain a job order from the Labour Department and a Foreign Worker Licence (LPA / Form BUR 500) against your post, after advertising the vacancy locally through JobCentre Brunei. Only then does Immigration approve the work visa, which you collect from the High Commission in Islamabad. A signed offer letter always comes before the visa, never after.

Does Brunei have a golden visa or citizenship by investment?

No. Brunei operates no residency-by-investment or citizenship-by-investment programme, and naturalisation is rare — the Nationality Act requires very long ordinary residence, commonly two decades or more, plus a Malay language test that few applicants pass. The nearest genuine option is the Business Visit Long Term Pass for foreign company owners and investors who meet Immigration's criteria and contribute to Brunei's socio-economic development. Detailed criteria, duration and fees are not published; they are confirmed case by case by the Immigration Department.

Can I take my wife and children with me?

Usually yes for Work Pass holders. A valid pass holder can apply for a Dependant Visa and Pass (Form 25) for a spouse and minor children, subject to salary, accommodation and medical checks. Students should confirm with their institution before assuming dependants can join them. Dependants have no right to work on that pass — a spouse who wants a job needs her own employer and her own Foreign Worker Licence — and dependent parents are not covered.
